Mobile Apps in the Marketplace is the Focus of January 2011 Mobile Monday Detroit meeting

As a result of many of our planned Mobile Safety speaker’s participation in the January International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, we have had to postpone the Mobile Safety topic until later in the year.  We will let you know when this topic will be re-scheduled.

In place of the Mobile Safety topic we will instead be focusing our January 10th meeting on Mobile Applications.

Our featured presenter will be a representative from jacApps, a division of Jacobs Media located in Southfield, MI. JacApps will present information on the success they’ve achieved as App Developers resulting from their ability to integrate research, strategy, and development skills into highly useful and effective Mobile Apps.  They will also provide information about how they see the Mobile App market from a development perspective.

Jacobs Media is a media research, consulting and application development firm that has a special concentration on media and consumer products companies, including National Public Radio, VH1, Sylvan Learning Centers and CBS Radio.  Since November of 2010, their development division, jacAPPS has become one of the world’s largest developers of mobile apps with over 140 apps in the app stores.

Also presenting will be our Mobile Monday Michigan Co-founder and Mobile Technology Association of Michigan Founder, Linda Daichendt, CEO of Strategic Growth Concepts. Linda will be presenting information about consumer preferences regarding Mobile Apps as indicated in a number of national and global studies along with a few pointers on effectively marketing your Mobile Apps to those consumers.

There will also be a mini-career fair where local mobile companies can come and talk with students and other job seekers.

Food and drinks will be provided.

This will likely be held earlier than the normal Mobile Monday meetings to accommodate the students. We are still nailing down the date and time, so this is tentative. More information will be posted soon.

One Campus Martius
Detroit, MI 48226

Has managing mobile technology in your organization become the unmanageable beast that no one wants to talk about and no one knows how to deal with?

Is your company evaluating the options between corporate-liable (company-owned) and personal-liable (employee-owned) mobile technology? Do you have a clear understanding of how such issues as security, budget, wireless lifecycle, and technical support needs will impact your decision?

If your company’s mobile technology is a beast that you need to start taming, this is definitely a meeting you should attend!

Our speakers for the evening will include:

Nick Pike, representing Nick Pick Consulting and VOX Mobile and Randy Nunez a Senior Network Engineer at Ford Motor Company.

Nick Pike was a member of the European Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and played in the British Open. After leaving the tour, in 1983 he founded Regency Golf, a leading European manufacturer and distributor of golf clubs, and grew the enterprise into a chain of retail golf stores. After years of traversing continents, he chose to reside in the United States.

In 2003, Nick joined a major wireless carrier as a sales executive representing strategic enterprise accounts. He recognized the need for customized wireless applications and was integral in the development of Sprint’s Business Solutions Partners sales channel. He was awarded membership in the President’s Club in 2004, an honor given to the top 1% of sales professionals. He was recognized for servicing strategic accounts with expertise and professionalism.

In 2005 Pike Co-founded Integrated Mobile, and led the Company’s business development efforts that took sales to $10 million within 3 years, he sold the business in 2009.

In 2010 Pike formed his own consulting firm that provides both small and large businesses with a wide range of wireless expertise that allows clients to control, gain visibility, secure and support their wireless environment. Unique Partnerships with VOX MOBILE, who provide platform support and KII Buying Consortium were formed and integrated into the offering.

Nick will be speaking to us about the diverse nature of the current wireless horizon; Blackberry, Droid, i-Phone, i-Pad, Windows, Palm devices – how to securely manage these various platforms across the Enterprise, plus how to manage the wireless lifecycle by creating control, visibility, achieving 20%-30% savings, a technical help desk and support for your mobile program.

Randy Nunez works in Ford’s Enterprise Technology-Research organization as the technical lead for the Mobile Computing workstream, where he is responsible for researching mobile computing technology trends, executing proofs-of-concepts for technology prove-out, publishing internal technical briefs, and delivering technology presentations to all levels of IT.

Randy will discuss a number of trends that are causing companies to look more closely at the use of individual-liable (employee-owned) smartphones for business purposes. His presentation will discuss Ford’s journey in using employee-owned devices in the enterprise. The presentation will include reasons behind the effort, key highlights of the journey, a description of the current program, and his recommendations for us.
